Jeff Beck ties Lady Gaga with three Grammys

Jeff Beck, seen here looking a lot like the guy on the cover of BLOW BY BLOW, won three Grammys last night in Los Angeles.

Jeff Beck's late-career resurgence -- which began the night he and bassist Tal Wilkenfeld stole the show at Eric Clapton's 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago -- continued yesterday, when he took home three Grammys, his most ever in one year.

The hat trick tied him with Lady Gaga, who was so thrilled that she laid a gigantic green egg -- or at least popped out of one before singing "Born This Way," her latest single.

Beck's multiple statues were among several guitar-centric triumphs from last night's live broadcast of the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Black Keys and Keith Urban also were multiple winners, with Neil Young and Paul McCartney claiming some shelf candy of their own.

Beck's frenetic, wah-wah-drenched "Hammerhead," a standout track from his 2010 album, EMOTION & COMMOTION, won Best Rock Instrumental Performance

The Puccini-penned "Nessun Dorma," another EMOTION & COMMOTION track, garnered the Best Pop Instrumental Performance award.

Grammy No. 3 was truly a group effort: Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals went to "Imagine" -- the John Lennon tune -- as performed by Herbie Hancock with Pink, India.Arie, Seal, Konono No 1, Oumou Sangare and Beck. The track is from Hancock's THE IMAGINE PROJECT.

"What a crazy few days," wrote Beck today on his blog at www.jeffbeck.com. "Performances, parties, interviews, seeing some friends and to top it all off, the Grammys. I got three, can you believe it? I am really thrilled and humbled. Thank you all for your support and encouragement."

Beck was nominated for five Grammys.

Note to all you local folkals: Jeff Beck and Imelda May are heading to New York and New Jersey, touring behind their upcoming release, ROCK 'N' ROLL PARTY HONORING LES PAUL, which was recorded last June at Iridium in New York City (I was there, people!).

The dates in question:

* March 28, BEACON THEATRE, New York City

* March 29, STATE THEATRE, New Brunswick, N.J.

See you there! Maybe ...
